Winter Hair Care for Healthy Hair

With the cold, dry air we’ve been experiencing this season, it is necessary to take a little extra care of your hair. During winter, the hair tends to get dry, brittle and experience more breakage. For this reason, we need to talk about a few ways you can protect your hair from the cold and keep it healthy so you can rock some amazing hair days.

Hydration! Use a good conditioner every time you wash your hair and a hydrating mask once a week. This is critical if you want to protect your hair from the cold, since combining these two products will keep your hair nourished and prepared for the cold snaps.

Gentle shampoo. Avoid strong shampoos - such as those for dandruff or greasy hair - because they tend to dry and weaken the hair. Your best bet is to use a mild, neutral shampoo on wash days and a good dry shampoo in between.

Scalp massage. Massaging your scalp will help protect the hair from the cold. When you apply a hydrating mask or hair oil, massage your scalp to promote blood circulation and remove dead cells. After all, healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp!

Avoid heat. There’s nothing quite like a hot shower in winter, but washing your hair with hot water will affect its health. As for heated styling tools, we recommend carefully drying your hair with a towel to remove excess water and using your dryer sparingly. Blow drying too often weakens and breaks hair, so the less you use irons or curlers the easier it will be for you to protect your hair from the cold. When you do style with heat, always use a thermal protectant.

Cover up. Winter is the perfect time to style with a cute hat, not only for warmth but for the health of your hair! Covering your hair is a good way to avoid exposing it to winter cold and moisture. Be sure that the hats and caps that you use are made of natural fibers, such as cotton or wool.

Eat your colors! A healthy diet is one of the most important things you can do to protect your hair from the cold. Foods rich in vitamins, proteins, and zinc will help you keep your hair healthy, shiny and strong. In addition, you should always make sure you’re drinking enough water to stay hydrated from within.
