The Modern Perm

If there’s anything we’ve learned from being in the hair business as long as we have, it’s that trends never truly die. To illustrate this point, one such trend that has been making a major comeback as of late is the perm. Not to be confused with the 80’s version, however, this particular comeback brings with it a bit of a modern twist. Turns out those giant, frazzled corkscrew curls as seen on Whitney, Cher and the rest of the 1980s isn't the only way to perm. This time around, the perm is taking on a more laid-back approach.
One of the best features of the modern perm is that it can be customized to your desired look based on the way the rods are placed and the size that are used, making it uniquely yours. Each perm will end up being totally authentic to you, whereas in the 80s the process was the same across the board.
The great thing about having a perm is how much it cuts down on your prep time. Perms lend themselves nicely to the wash and go convenience most of us can only dream about while still delivering major style and texture for a polished look.
Today’s process is also much gentler than the old version, making this treatment an option even for color treated hair these days. The resulting curls can last anywhere from three to six months, and of course your new found texture will require a new maintenance routine. For example, you’ll want to invest in a good hydrating conditioner to help protect against further damage, and a good curl cream will help you achieve your new found easy style.
