Top Tips to Maintain Your Hair Color

Once you’ve spent your time and money visiting a salon to get gorgeous new hair color, you’ll need to take a few steps to make sure that color sticks around. To help you protect your investment, we’ve rounded up a few of our top tips to help you keep your color from fading too quickly and your hair looking healthy, especially as we prepare to head into colder weather.
Tip #1 - Wait 48 hours before shampooing. After your hair is colored, wait at least two days (three or four is even better) before you shampoo. This will give the hair shaft time to close so that the color won’t rinse out right away.
Tip #2 - Choose the right shampoo and conditioner. By using products that are specifically formulated for color-treated hair, you will be safeguarding your hair from harsh ingredients that might strip the color right back out. Tip #3 - Use a color-safe dry shampoo in between washes. Shampooing your hair every day can cause major color fade. Keep your hair looking and feeling fresh in between washes with a dry shampoo that’s safe for color-treated hair, such as Dry Wash®.
Tip #4 - Nourish strands with a hair mask. Treat your color-treated hair once a week with a deep-conditioning treatment such as Ultimate Color Repair® Mask to add moisture back.
Tip #5 - Protect color from heat. Keep your hair color safe from damage from heat styling tools and exposure to the sun by using a thermal protectant. We recommend Color Protect® Locking Spray by Paul Mitchell.
