A brand-new year is upon us, and it’s the perfect time to make a change for the better. Well, what better time for a fresh start than now? If you’re ready to break a few bad hair habits this year, we’re here today with four New Year’s hair resolutions that you can make any day. Check them out, and then get started!
Ditch the breakage. One of the easiest ways to help prevent hair breakage is simply a matter of being mindful about brushing your hair. Keep your hair tangle-free and minimize breakage by brushing hair before washing it, and never while it’s wet. Hair is weaker and more susceptible to tangles when wet, so if you brush it post-shower you’re actually putting your hair at greater risk for breakage. Gently brush your hair before you shower and you’ll help ensure it remains silky soft and tangle-free.
Update your hair care routine. A new year offers a new opportunity to take stock of your hair care routine. Are you using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and needs? In general, a good routine requires the right balance of moisture and strength. Making sure your locks receive a good mixture of both will help decrease the likelihood of damage from overuse. Much like dry hair, over-moisturized hair is prone to increased breakage. Similarly, hair over-treated with strengthening proteins can experience decreased flexibility and increased breakage. To keep your hair feeling and looking its best, try washing with a strengthening shampoo and conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner- or vice versa- or alternate between a strengthening care regimen and moisturizing regimen each time you wash your hair.
Be nice to your hair. Make a resolution to treat your hair with the respect it deserves this year. If your hair is color-treated, make your stylist proud by adequately protecting your gorgeous investment with products formulated for color-treated hair. Are you obsessed with heat styling tools? Commit to being a regular thermal protection user as well! No matter what your hair care needs are, Paul Mitchell® has the perfect products to help you care for it properly.
Say bye-bye to split ends. While you may be able to smooth over your split ends temporarily with some of your favorite Paul Mitchell styling products, the bad news is split ends are an irreparable problem—and the longer you hold onto them the more damage they’ll cause your hair. Once a hair splits, it will only continue to split up the hair shaft, damaging that strand beyond repair. The only real solution to split ends is a fresh trim. Visit your stylist, who will be able to help revive your strands by giving you a cute cut above your highest point of splitting. To help prevent future split ends, be kind to your hair by using a heat protectant, towel drying gently, and not over-washing.
